History of Metairie

With a rich history that dates back to the 1720s when French settlers stopped on a place known as Metairie Ridge. Bayou Metairie flowed through the neighborhoods of River Ridge, Metairie, Gentilly, and New Orleans East, emptying into the Mississippi Sound. Even further back the Acolapissa Native Americans used Mairie Ridge as a road, the oldest known road in New Orleans.
