If you want to enjoy downtown, the Canal streetcar offers an easy way to get there. It's located right in the center of Mid-City making it easy for residents to enjoy the best the city has to offer.

Mid-City is also home to Rock 'n Bowl, the Crescent City Farmers Market, the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Besthoff Sculpture Garden. In addition, plenty of events are held here including the annual Celebration in the Oaks, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and plenty more.

However unofficially, the area spanning Mid-City is broader, also including the regions bordering these areas.

The region near the Fairgrounds and the portion of Esplanade Avenue that lies in close proximity is typically called the Bayou St. John neighborhood or Esplanade Ridge. On crossing the bridge over the tail of Esplanade in front of City Park, one can see the old Bayou. It is a calm area that winds through the old urban locality and consists of a long stretch of water surrounded by grassy slopes.

Mid-City is not the most popular area for tourists unlike some of the other hotspots, however, it has quite a few attractions and a charm of its own. Younger people looking for historic homes are drawn to this region of the city. How old is Mid-City New Orleans?

However, the region remained a backswamp until development transformed it in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
